Recovery Tip

Did you know that your core muscles, which are the deepest layer of your tummy muscles, should work at all times to brace and protect your back? These muscles switch off due to pain and it takes 50,000 repetitions before they work automatically again to protect your back!

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercise that focuses on postural alignment and core control.
It utilises gentle, simple movement to achieve functional strength and stability.  Pilates principles are in line with some physiotherapy principles and thus are widely popular amongst physiotherapists as a tool for rehabilitation. Some of the benefits of Pilates are:

  • Improved posture
  • Increased strength and ease of movements
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved muscle tone with leaner, longer muscles
  • Improved balance and coordination
  • Improved breathing and circulation
  • Assists in the reduction of low back pain, neck pain and headaches

Pilates is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their posture and well-being.  It is particularly beneficial to people who have a history of low back pain or neck pain and those that are currently recovering from an episode of spinal pain.  It is also highly recommend for people with sedentary occupations to undo all the stiffness and weakness associated with being stuck in a chair all day long!

At Le Physique Physiotherapy, we are pleased to offer you a personalised Pilates home programme that is designed specifically for you to address all your individual needs.
