Physiotherapist Supervised Pilates Programme

1st session:  A one-hour session where your physiotherapist reviews with you any relevant medical history before conducting a comprehensive biomechanical assessment to identify areas of weakness and tightness that need to be addressed.  You will be introduced to the principles of Pilates and in particular, how to achieve good posture and how to activate your core muscles correctly.  You will also be given some simple stretches to get started straight away.

2nd session:  A 45min session where you learn the first half of your home programme.  Strong emphasis will be placed on the quality and control of your movements.  You will learn how to execute your exercises precisely and also what compensatory or ‘cheating’ strategies to look out for.

3rd session:  A 45 min session where you learn the remainder of your home programme.  Once again strong emphasis will be placed on the quality and control of your movements.

4th session:  A 45 min session where your progress is reviewed.  You may choose to have this session shortly after your 3rd session or 2 weeks after, depending on your confidence and proficiency with your programme.

5th session:  A final 45 min session where your programme is reviewed and where appropriate, upgraded.

In order to achieve maximal benefit from your programme, it is highly recommended that you practise your home programme two to three times a week. This is of particular importance in the early stages of your programme where it is essential that you consolidate your new skills through regular practice.

Programme upgrade

With regular practice you will find that your home programme becomes easier and easier.  This is of course what we would expect as you become better and stronger.  It is advised that you upgrade your programme to provide new challenges for your body so you can progress to a higher level of core control and fitness.
1-up:  A 45 min session where your progress is reviewed and some of your exercises progressed.
2-up:  A 45 min session where we review your new exercises, continue to progress your existing exercises as well as introducing some new exercises.
